This checklist is designed for tournament organizers who begin planning 9-12 months prior to their event date, but don’t let that make you feel rushed if you’re not planning that far ahead! Whether your tournament is next year or next month, this checklist will make sure you’ve thought through everything your big day will need.
The types of tasks you can expect to find in our checklist
- Administrative: These are your general tasks, like organizing your tournament committee, planning your budget, securing insurance for a hole-in-one contest or bad weather, and hammering out event-day details.
- Golf Course: The key to a successful tournament is making sure everything is lined up with your golf course. Selecting a course that fits with your golfer’s skill level, securing a contract, planning out meals, sorting your golfer teams and planning for what tasks will require the staff at the course getting involved.
- Sponsorship: The backbone of your fundraising efforts, handling sponsors will be something to take on right from the start, all the way up until tournament day. Think about reaching out to those you want to include on your sponsor list, getting donated gifts picked up and prepared, and how you will be following up with sponsors throughout the whole process.
- Marketing: Spreading the word of your tournament is important for both sponsors and golfers. Handling your marketing tasks will be key leading up to event day. Get your website set up, draw attention to registration, keep your golfers updated, prepare signage for sponsors, and more!
